I was a successful businessman in Beirut, Lebanon, with financial stability, success, possessions, and extravagant living. Obedience to Christ was secondary. But then in 2019 Lebanon endured a severe economic collapse. This crisis destroyed countless businesses including mine and wiped-out personal savings, pushing many into financial hardship and uncertainty. 

 

As if the economic turmoil were not enough, the third most powerful explosion in human history rocked Beirut, causing thousands of deaths and injuries. The blast devastated a huge portion of Beirut, leaving lasting scars on the city and its residents.

 

But the Lord used this economic crisis and the subsequent loss of my business and financial stability to bring me back to Him. It was as if He was saying to me, "Enough is enough. Return to your first love." He was so patient and merciful with me. In my distress I returned to Him in obedience, confessing my many sins. Strengthened by His grace, He kept me from despair as my family and I faced these heavy losses, and He became my refuge and my strong support. 

 

With no job, I had a lot of free time. So, I began reading the Bible intensively, along with other Christian books. However, my reading seemed disconnected, and I longed to learn more. That is when the Lord led me study online at JETS. With each course I have taken, my desire to learn more of God’s Word has grown. My deeper engagement with the Bible helps me see the connections and unity of the Word from beginning to end. I began to understand God's plan of salvation and His covenant promises to Abraham, Jacob, and David, and how they fit in God’s bigger plan. I have come to understand God’s attributes and His faithfulness in my life more deeply and clearly. 

 

During my studies at JETS, Hezbollah’s wars against Israel began in 2023, without the support of most Lebanese. This has intensified the difficulties and suffering for Lebanon and has cost my people dearly in both lives and property. Whenever hardships arise, we instinctively hurry to stock food and supplies, and opt for one path over another, hoping that it offers greater safety. My home is only 500 meters from the American embassy which was threatened by missile strikes during the recent Iran war. And while many of my neighbors sought safer locations, I remained in my home, and the Lord protected us from falling shrapnel. Ultimately, we are turning to the Lord, seeking His provision, protection, and guidance. He has been so faithful. 

 

I am grateful for all I have learned at JETS. My desire is to continue to grow in God’s Word, share it with others through the adult Sunday School class I teach, and respond to the questions people have about the hope I have in Christ. 

 

The difficulties in our region are still ongoing, yet God has been with me and my family. By faith I started a new company that employs many believers, and we start each day with prayer and devotions, thanking God for His continued protection and faithfulness in all our lives.
